Message From the Atherton Police Officers' Association

With the election season upon us, we know Atherton residents have choices when it comes to the election of two members for the Atherton Town Council.
However, your police department could eventually be outsourced to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department depending on the current and future actions of your Town Council.
The Atherton Police Officers' Association has reviewed the questionnaires that were sent to all Atherton Town Council candidates. The men and women of the Atherton Police Officers' Association are supporting current Town Council Member Elizabeth Lewis for re-election, and Town Council Candidate Cary Wiest for election.
We believe these candidates will act in Atherton residents’ best interests, the best interestsof the Town of Atherton, and the best interests of the Atherton Police Department. Please join us in supporting Elizabeth Lewis and Cary Wiest for election to the Atherton Town Council.
There is a Council meeting on October 17, 2012. It is expected the Town Council will be discussing, and making arguments against, the information we earlier provided to all residents. The Atherton Police Officers’ Association will have a response posted on our website after the meeting.

ReplyDeleteThe Almanac reports: "Councilman Dobbie said if the council ever decided it wanted to turn over police operations to another agency, he would push for putting the question on the ballot. Bill Widmer, who will take a seat on the council in December, also said voters should be the ultimate decision-makers on outsourcing"
Residents should turn out in numbers to express their opinions on: Outsourcing the Police, the concessions the council wants in the police contract, and the police department's right to inform residents of what the council is doing.
