Dear Fellow Athertonians,
The posted agenda for the Wednesday, Wednesday 5-16, Atherton City Council meeting includes information that the Council will vote on whether the Planning Commission should review the final environment impact report before it appears before the Council itself. Could someone clarify for me, please, how this is right and proper procedure since my understanding has been, as someone unfamiliar with EIR rules and regulations, that the comments on the DEIR made by the public during the comment period ending May 7th, I believe, could be addressed again to the Planning Commission's determination on the completed EIR (stated in a town notice from Atherton Planning Commission dated March 23, 2012 - signed by Neal Martin, Town Planner). After the determination by the Planning Commission, wouldn't the public commenters have the right to respond to their formerly addressed concerns before the City Council interjects itself into the process?

ReplyDeleteI would agree with you. This is very questionable. How did it become an agenda item? I would think it was not the idea of the city manager, but rather came from a council member. If a council member wants to put something on the agenda, it should have to be brought to the full council by two council member and voted on at a council meeting.
Also on the meeting agenda is changing from a General Law city to a Charter Law city. This will allow taxing for real estate transfers.
