Subject: Misinformation on Master Plan
Dear town residents,
Sadly there is a lot of misinformation floating around by some resident’s desire for a town Master Plan.
Why in all the years that the Blue Ribbon Task Force from 2009 and this past year of the Town Center Task Force, has there never been a consideration to do a Master Plan? Why did the Town Center Task Force exclude the library in their Report and raise the idea of using the existing library for records storage? Why now after the library has spent countless hours and thousands of dollars, to make such an effort to consider a Master Plan?
There is no town requirement to do a “Master Plan”. In fact the Town Center Task Force held a design competition for the new Town Center which comprised the police and administration departments (the only departments not being outsourced) and two highly qualified architectural firms provided detailed three dimensional proposed designs ……………… PRO BONO.

Now, this same Town Center Task Force seeks to encumber the town finances to pay for a Master Plan. Whose budget would pay for such a Master Plan, the Building Departments reserve? Why? Is there possibly a hidden agenda in this approach?
Does the town really have the financial resources to pay for a Master Plan after being given at no cost, two designs from highly qualified architectural firms?
Let the town’s normal planning process continue.

What is the need for a library in Atherton? We have access to many very large libraries in our area. Most of us purchase our own books and do not use the library at all. Because of our access to the much larger libraries in our area - Menlo and Redwood City - I do not feel there is a need for a library nor a post office in Atherton. It is an added and unnecessary expense. Perhaps, it is the Council's desire? A need or a want?
ReplyDeleteI am told by some older Athertonians, if the library is moved to the Park, they will be unable to drive there and not use the library. Nor, do these elderly have computers to express their views nor write letters to you, as well as able to attend meetings.
